Autumn may be fleeting in the mountains, but it’s spectacular. As the deciduous trees turn golden and temperatures dip, the national park begins to empty – which is surprising, because fall is a wonderful season to be in the mountains. Here are a few activities that are extra special in the autumn.
Hiking with fewer people
As the summer winds down, Jasper gets quieter. That means a vast wilderness becomes even more yours. Most guided hiking outfitters operate until the end of October.
Wildlife tour
In the fall the elk have their “rut.” It’s fascinating to watch the bulls lock racks but they can be dangerous, making it extra important to go with wildlife experts.
Stargazing
Fall brings shorter days, meaning there’s more time to appreciate the world’s second largest dark sky preserve in the world!
Photography
Want that enviable sunrise shot? In autumn you won’t have to get up as early in order to snap the perfect photo. Photo tours are available.
Jasper SkyTram
Operating daily until October 25, the Jasper SkyTram offers an amazing chance to get high into the alpine and reach a summit before winter closes in for the year.
Fireside Chat
Gather around a fire to listen to drumming, singing and storytelling from an Indigenous Knowledge Keeper.
Sightseeing
Many of Jasper’s most iconic viewpoints take on a different tone in the autumn. Whether you go on a sightseeing or motorcycle tour, you’ll be able to enjoy famous spots without navigating crowds.
